Kirstie Brown – Volunteer Commissioning Manager

Kirstie lives in Yeovil and has worked for Somerset County Council for 25 years, primarily as a youth worker, manager and trainer. During this time, Kirstie spent a lot of time working with volunteers. She believes in the benefits of volunteering, both for the organisation, the public and the volunteer themselves. Kirstie feels very lucky that her job is something that she is passionate about. Kirstie herself is a regular volunteer for a local mental health charity. In her spare time she enjoys cats, nail art and being sociable.

 

 

Sarah Broomfield – Volunteer Co-Ordinator

Sarah lives in Taunton and has worked in the South West for 8 years. She started her career in the area of hospitality and catering, before gaining an apprenticeship in administration. Sarah Started her role as volunteer co-ordinator with Somerset County Council in July 2019 and loves working with volunteers and services on the promotion, development and quality assurance of volunteering opportunities. In her spare time she loves cake decorating and going on long walks with her dog (Sasha the Saluki)

 

 

Brenda Fowler – Volunteer Support Officer

Brenda has been recruiting and supporting volunteers for 9 years in the Somerset area in a wide variety of different services. Brenda says ‘Volunteers are vital to the local communities and provide so much support for people in many ways. Sometimes, we see people start to transform their lives through volunteering. It’s a great feeling knowing I’ve played a very small part in that’. Brenda is a cat lover and has two cats (Storm and Twitch) who are more like children but Brenda is not the “cat lady”.

 

 

Jeff Brown – Service Manager Stronger Communities

Jeff worked in Somerset County Council Children Services for over 20 years before moving into Public Health.

He has a background in youth work and community development, and has supported voluntary organisations throughout his career. He firmly believes the Stronger Communities work should improve and join up support for voluntary and community organisations across the council and wider public sector.

In his spare time he’s a trustee for Samaritans and motor club treasurer as well as being an active motorsport competitor.

 

Laura Bazley – Volunteer Support Officer

Laura moved to Somerset at the beginning of 2020 after undertaking a two-year working visa in Canada. She has been with Somerset County Council for the last year, previously working in the library sector and starting her role as Volunteer Support Officer in April 2021.

Laura has much experience working with volunteers and past roles have included the delivery of community projects and the development of services with volunteer groups. She is passionate about supporting and empowering people in their volunteering journey.

In her spare time, she enjoys photography and going on long walks in the countryside and by the coast.
