As a Summer Reading Challenge Volunteer you will be volunteering in your local library assisting with the challenge; which encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read six books during the summer holiday. You will be helping young people to sign up to the challenge, recording books read, encouraging them as they make their way through the challenge and celebrating their success when they complete.

There will also be the opportunity to support craft events and other activities as part of your volunteering. Volunteering with the summer reading challenge is open to anyone aged 13 and over.

Further information

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays (July – September). Children sign up at their local library, then read six library books, that they choose, to complete the Challenge. There are exclusive rewards for them to collect along the way, and it’s free to take part!

By volunteering with your library to support the challenge you will be helping to get children reading more. If you are 13 – 24 you can find out what other young people have said about volunteering with the summer reading challenge here. It provides you with valuable experience and helps to develop confidence and social skills. You will also get to be involved in your local community and make a positive contribution.
